home14away14Many predicted a poor third or fourth place finish for The Red Devils this season, having lost too many important players during the summer. As it turned out, the season went to the final match, but Chelsea were too reliable when it came to the crunch and Manchester United finished second, one point behind the leaders. There was fan-led protest from the Red Knights who mounted a campaign to oust the American owners.
2008 - 2009
home13away13third13Fought a tough campaign that saw Liverpool lead let slip a small lead, letting Manchester United win their third Premier League title in a row. Christiano Ronaldo fulfilled what was surely his destiny and left for Real Madrid. Carlos Tevez, upset by Alex Fergusons unwillingness to pay the high asking price for him, crossed the city to play for the newly rebuilt Manchester City.
2007 - 2008
home3away3The 50th anniversary of the Munich air disaster, United won the league for the 17th time in their history, putting them one behind Liverpools top-flight record of 18 titles. Winning the all-english Champions League by beating Chelsea on penalties ensured this went down as another succesful season for Sir Alex Ferguson, Britains most succesful manager ever.

They had left the area of Newton Heath, from which they took their name, nine years ago and it was decided that it was time to choose a more fitting name. Manchester Central and Manchester Celtic were considered before the tea-boy's suggestion of Manchester United was settled upon.
